Tumblr

Post to your Tumblr blogs with images, video, links and tags, from the same note as the rest of your week. Each blog you add is one account on your plan.

Connect Tumblr

  1. Open Accounts, select Connect account, then the Tumblr tile: Sign in with Tumblr.
  2. Sign in on Tumblr and allow Refract to post.
  3. Pick the blogs to add. You can add several at once.
  4. Choose which workspace each blog belongs to, then select Connect.

Tumblr signs Refract in for a short time and Refract renews it on its own. One sign-in covers all the blogs of one Tumblr user, so they renew together. If Tumblr stops accepting it (you removed Refract under Settings › Apps on Tumblr, or changed your password), each of those blogs shows Signed out of Tumblr on the Accounts page: select Reconnect on one of them and sign in as the same Tumblr user. Your other blogs come back with it. Client connect links can include Tumblr.

What you can post

  • Post: text, with a title if you want one. Each paragraph becomes its own block, and links in the text stay clickable.
  • Photos and video: they lead the post, the way Tumblr shows them. Up to 30 photos (JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB, GIFs up to 10 MB), or one video up to 500 MB and 10 minutes.
  • Link: the post's last link gets a card for your page under the text.
  • Tags: the words people search for, without the #. Up to 30 tags of 140 characters each. Tumblr searches the first 30.
  • Send as a draft: turn it on in the Tumblr tab to send the post to your blog's drafts and finish it on Tumblr.

Add alt text to every image: the composer reminds you.

Limits

Tumblr allows 250 posts and 250 photo uploads a day per Tumblr user, counted across all your blogs, and 20 videos a day. When a day's posts or uploads would go over, the composer and the queue say so, like "Tumblr allows 250 posts a day. This would be post 251." or "Tumblr allows 250 image uploads a day. This post would make it 251.", and Refract holds the post until Tumblr's day starts again, then sends it. Refract asks Tumblr when its day resets.

Edit and remove

  • Edit: yes. Refract sends the whole post again: text, title, tags and files.
  • Remove: yes. The post is deleted from your blog. A post already gone from Tumblr counts as removed.

Numbers

Analytics shows each post's notes (likes, reblogs and replies together) and your blog's followers. Tumblr doesn't share views.

Errors and fixes

What Refract says What to do
