How this count works
- Most letters count as one and most emoji as two.
- A line break counts as one character.
- Mentions and hashtags count like any other text, the @ and # included.
- Links count by their full length.
LinkedIn preview
LinkedIn shows this much before “…see more”.
It stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
Your text never leaves your browser: nothing is sent anywhere or stored.
How LinkedIn counts characters.
LinkedIn counts text in UTF-16 units, the way many apps store it. Letters, spaces and most symbols count as one; most emoji count as two, an emoji with a skin tone as four, and joined emoji like families as more.
A few examples, counted the way LinkedIn counts them: “Refract” counts as 7, “👍” counts as 2, “👍🏽” counts as 4, “👨👩👧” counts as 8, “日本語” counts as 3 and “https://refract.social/pricing” counts as 30.
In the feed, LinkedIn shows the first 210 characters or 3 lines of a post, whichever comes first, and hides the rest behind a “more” link.
