Questions and answers.
What is the Threads character limit?
A Threads post can be up to 500 characters. Letters, spaces and line breaks count as one; each emoji counts as its size in bytes.
Why do emoji count as more than one character on Threads?
Threads counts an emoji by its size in bytes: most are four, an emoji with a skin tone is eight, and joined emoji like families are more.
Do links count toward the limit?
Yes. A link counts as the characters in it, so a long link uses more of the 500.
How many photos or videos can a Threads post have?
Up to 20 files in one post, as a carousel. Files don’t count toward the character limit.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The counter runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to Refract or stored.
