Terms of service

Updated 28 Oct 2026 · Questions: legal@refract.social

These terms are the agreement between you and us for using Refract, at refract.social and through its API, MCP server, WordPress plugin and apps. Please read them. By creating an account or using Refract you accept them.

In short

  • Refract is run by Anpsthemes LLC, a US company. You must be 18 or older, or a business, to use it.
  • You own what you post. You're responsible for it, and for following each network's rules.
  • Plans renew until you cancel. There are no refunds except where the law requires one. Payments go through Link (Stripe), which is the seller of record.
  • AI features cost credits and can be wrong. Check what they write and make before you publish it.
  • You can leave any time. Deleted workspaces can be restored for 30 days, then they're gone for good.

01Who we are#

Refract is run by Anpsthemes LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("we", "us"). Our postal address: Anpsthemes LLC · 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA. "You" means the person who uses Refract and, when you use it for a business, that business too. If you accept these terms for a business, you confirm you're allowed to bind it.

Our Privacy policy explains what we do with personal data. If you use Refract for other people's data (your team, your clients, people in your posts), our Data processing agreement is part of these terms.

02Your account and workspaces#

  • Who can sign up. Businesses, and individuals aged 18 or older. Refract isn't for children.
  • Your account. You sign in with an emailed code, a password, a passkey, or your Google account. Keep your sign-in methods safe and turn on two-step sign-in if you can. You're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at support@refract.social if you think someone else got in.
  • Organizations and workspaces. An organization holds the plan, the billing and the team. It has one or more workspaces, each with its own accounts, posts and media. Admins of the organization manage people, roles, billing and settings. You're responsible for who you invite and what role you give them.
  • True details. Give us a real email address you can read. We send sign-in codes and important notices there.

03Trials and plans#

  • Trial. New organizations get a free trial for the period shown when you sign up. No card is needed. A trial gets a small one-time amount of AI credits, for the Draft image tier only.
  • When the trial ends. If you don't choose a plan, scheduling pauses: nothing is posted, and nothing is deleted. Choosing a plan starts it again.
  • Plans. Each plan has limits on accounts, workspaces, seats, AI credits and features, shown on the pricing page. Prices are in US dollars, plus any tax.
  • Upgrades apply at once. Stripe charges the prorated difference for the rest of the term straight away, and the dialog shows that amount before you confirm.
  • Downgrades apply at the end of the paid term. If your accounts or workspaces don't fit the smaller plan, you pick what to keep; the rest is paused or archived, never deleted, and comes back if you choose it again or move to a bigger plan.
  • Changes to plans and prices. We may change plans or prices. A price change for your plan applies from a renewal after we've told your organization's admins by email.

04Payments, tax and refunds#

  • Who sells to you. Subscriptions and credit packs are sold through Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe, shown to you as Link, is the merchant of record: it takes the payment, works out and collects VAT or sales tax for your country, sends receipts and invoices, and handles payment questions, chargebacks and any consumer cooling-off rules that apply to you. Your card statement shows "LINK.COM". Link's own terms apply to the purchase.
  • Renewal. Plans renew automatically, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. You can cancel any time from Billing (Manage billing opens Stripe's customer portal). You keep the plan until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Refunds. We don't refund payments, part-used periods or bought credits, except where the law requires it. Link may refund a purchase under its own policy.
  • Failed payments. If Stripe can't take a renewal payment, we email your organization's admins and show it in Billing. If it stays unpaid, the subscription can end, and scheduling then pauses as it does at the end of a trial.

05Credits#

Refract's AI features are paid in credits.

  • What a credit is. One credit covers up to $0.008 of what the AI provider charges us. An AI action costs max(1, ceil(provider cost ÷ $0.008)) credits, and Refract shows the cost before it runs. Credits are held while the action runs; if it fails, they come back.
  • Monthly credits come with paid plans. They refill on the 1st of each month, and the ones you didn't use expire at the refill.
  • Free credits (from a trial or given by us) and bought credits never expire while your organization's account exists.
  • Refract uses monthly credits first, then free ones, then bought ones.
  • Limits. To protect the service, AI can pause for a while when an organization reaches its daily credit cap, or when Refract's overall daily spend with providers is reached. Admins can also set limits for each team member.
  • Credits have no cash value, can't be exchanged for money and can't be moved to another organization or person. They end when the organization's account is closed.

06What you post and your responsibility#

  • You own your content. Text, images, video and everything else you put into Refract stays yours. You give us the permission we need to store it, process it, show it to your team and approvers, and send it to the networks and services you choose. That permission ends when the content is deleted, except for copies already published on networks and in backups until they expire.
  • You're responsible for it. Only post what you have the right to post, including other people's photos, music, trademarks and personal data. Get any consent you need from people who appear in your posts.
  • AI-made content. If you post text or images made or edited with AI, you're responsible for them like anything else you post. Some networks require you to label AI-generated or synthetic media (for example in TikTok, YouTube and Meta's apps). Follow their rules: Refract doesn't add these labels for you.
  • Scheduling isn't a guarantee. We work hard to post on time, but networks can delay, reject or change posts, and can be down. Check that important posts went out.

07Connected platforms#

  • Official APIs. Refract connects to Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, X, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram, Discord, Tumblr, Slack, Pixelfed and DEV through their official APIs, with the permissions you grant when you connect an account. We only do what you ask: publish, schedule, edit or remove what you published where the network allows it, read your profile details, and read the statistics that analytics show.
  • WordPress sites. You connect a WordPress site through the Refract for WordPress plugin, which you install on the site. The site then sends Refract the blog posts you choose, as notes for your social posts, and, if you turn it on in the plugin, Refract can publish posts or send drafts to the site. You're responsible for the site, for the plugin's settings (including who Refract publishes as, and whether it can publish or only send drafts) and for what's published there. The plugin is free software under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later; that licence covers the plugin's code, and these terms cover your use of Refract through it.
  • Their terms apply. When you connect an account, you also agree to that network's terms, and you must follow them. Each network's own terms apply to what you post there. By using Refract's YouTube features, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Refract uses YouTube API Services, and Google's handling of the data is in the Google Privacy Policy. How Refract handles YouTube data is in our Privacy policy.
  • They can change. Networks change their APIs, limits and rules, sometimes without notice. A feature can stop working because of that, and that isn't a breach of these terms. We'll tell you when a change affects you.
  • Disconnecting. You can disconnect an account any time in Accounts, or remove Refract's access from the network's own settings; a WordPress site can also be disconnected in the plugin's settings on the site. Refract then stops posting to it; disconnecting in Accounts or in the plugin also deletes Refract's access tokens for it at once, and disconnecting a YouTube channel also revokes Refract's access with Google. Our Privacy policy says what happens to the data.

08AI features and credits#

  • Assist writes and rewrites post text with Anthropic's Claude models. Studio makes images through fal.ai, which runs some models itself and passes others to the company that makes them (for example OpenAI, Google, Black Forest Labs, ByteDance, Recraft, Ideogram and Alibaba). The models available can change.
  • Help answers questions about using Refract with Anthropic's Claude models, from the user guide and what it can read in your workspace. It's free, with a fair daily limit per person, and it only explains: it never changes anything in your workspace.
  • What we send. Only what the action needs: your instruction, the text you're working on and, in Studio, your description and any reference images you pick.
  • Outputs can be wrong. AI can make mistakes, make things up, or produce something similar to existing work. Nothing changes in your post until you accept a suggestion. Review it before you publish, and don't rely on it for facts, legal, medical or financial advice.
  • Your own keys. An admin can add your organization's own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or fal key. Requests that use your key are billed to you by that provider under your agreement with them, and don't cost credits.
  • Don't use AI features to make content that breaks the acceptable use rules below or the providers' own usage policies.

09The API, MCP and agents#

  • Access. On plans that include it, you can use Refract's API with API tokens, and connect AI agents (such as Claude or Cursor) through our MCP server after you approve them.
  • Keep tokens secret. Treat API tokens and agent access like passwords. Give them only the role and workspaces they need, and revoke them when you're done. Anyone with a token can act as its permissions allow.
  • What they do counts as yours. Actions taken with your tokens, by agents you've approved or by WordPress sites you've connected are treated as taken by you, including posts they send and approve. Workspace approval rules can require a person to approve agent posts first; they apply to WordPress sites in the same way.
  • Limits. The API, uploads and MCP have rate limits. Don't try to get around them, scrape Refract, or put unreasonable load on it.
  • We may change the API. We'll give notice before removing something you use, unless a network change or security issue forces it sooner.

10Agencies and clients#

  • White-label. On Agency plans you can show your own brand and use your own domain for what your clients see.
  • Client approval and connect links. You can send clients links to approve posts or to connect their own social accounts to your workspace, without them signing up. You're responsible for who you send links to.
  • Your clients' consent. If you manage accounts or post for clients, you must have their permission, and you're responsible for your relationship with them, including their own data and their followers. For their personal data, you're the controller and we're your processor under our Data processing agreement.

11Acceptable use#

Don't use Refract to:

  • break the law, or the terms of any network you post to;
  • post content that's illegal, infringes someone's rights, harasses or threatens people, sexualises minors, promotes violence or terrorism, or is fraud, phishing or malware;
  • send spam, run fake engagement, or manage accounts you have no right to use;
  • mislead people about who's behind an account or a post, including with deepfakes of real people;
  • try to break into, test or overload Refract or other people's data, or get around plan limits, credits or rate limits;
  • resell Refract, except agencies serving their own clients as these terms allow.

We may remove content or limit features to stop a breach, and we'll tell you why unless the law or safety stops us.

12Ending the agreement#

  • You can stop any time. Cancel the plan in Billing, delete workspaces in Settings, and delete your own account in Profile and security. If you're the only admin of an organization, make someone else an admin first, or write to support@refract.social to close the organization.
  • We can suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or leaves us no choice under the law or a network's rules. Where we reasonably can, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix it.
  • Your data. A deleted workspace can be restored for 30 days. After that it's deleted for good, with its posts, media files and connected accounts. Posts and media files you delete inside a workspace are deleted for good 30 days after you delete them (a file a post you haven't deleted still uses is kept until that post is deleted too). Deleting your personal account removes your sign-in methods, memberships, tokens and sessions straight away; posts you wrote stay in the workspace without your name. Backups hold copies for about 30 more days, then they expire. Posts already published stay on the networks until you delete them there.
  • Sections that by their nature should survive (payments owed, credits, liability, governing law) survive the end of the agreement.

13Disclaimers and liability#

  • As is. We provide Refract as it is and as available. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that networks will accept every post, or that AI outputs will be accurate.
  • Our total liability to you for all claims about Refract is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
  • Not liable for: lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, or indirect or consequential losses; or what networks, AI providers and other services you connect do.
  • These limits don't apply to anything the law doesn't allow to be limited: for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for gross negligence or intent. If you're a consumer, you keep the rights the law of the country you live in gives you, and nothing here takes them away.
  • Your part. If you use Refract for a business, you'll cover our reasonable costs from claims by others that come from your content or your breach of these terms.

14Changes to these terms#

We may update these terms. For material changes we'll email the admins of your organization at least 30 days before they take effect, unless a change is needed sooner by law or for security. If you don't agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.

15Governing law#

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, and disputes go to the courts located in Wyoming. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in your local courts where that law allows.

If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing something isn't giving it up. You can't transfer this agreement without our consent; we can transfer it with the business.
